Jiří is a passionate researcher and software engineer mostly focusing on challenging problems from the field of machine learning and natural language processing (NLP). After graduating from the Faculty of Informatics at Masaryk University, he shortly worked for a British lexicographical company, Lexical Computing Ltd., as a developer of automatic methods for creating web-based corpora. After that, he joined the fulltext search group at Seznam.cz, where he is currently leading the research team.

Jiří’s professional interests range from designing NLP algorithms to recent trends in artificial intelligence and information retrieval. His deepest technical knowledge covers statistical methods for NLP, lexical semantics and probabilistic graphical models, which roots from his Ph.D. thesis on probabilistic semantic frames.

In his leisure time, he likes listening to live jazz and classical music, traveling and hiking.
