We will select up to 10 startups for our three-month intensive startup accelerator focused on bringing products and solutions based on Deep Technologies to market. We are currently looking for startups or teams working on the following Deep Tech domain:

Deep Tech Focus

The focus of StartupYard Batch 8 will be “Deep Tech.”

Deep Tech means companies working on technologies and products that are unique, difficult to replicate, or are exploring areas of innovation where the barrier to entry remains high, and the problems scientifically complex and difficult, such as Robots, AI, IoT, VR/AR, and Cryptography.

Today, the barrier to entry for globally scalable startups is lower than ever. However, there are still tremendously complex problems left to solve. In years past, our focus on the Data Economy has shown us that there is a growing need for novel approaches to the way people work, communicate, do business, participate in the economy, and understand the world around them.

Deep Tech solutions seek to develop never-before-possible opportunities to profoundly alter the way everyone, not just the tech industry, works, thinks, and sees the future. Deep Tech companies work at the edges of possibility for emerging technologies, and so have the potential to disrupt and change whole industries overnight.

Betting on Our Future

This is not just a bet on technology. It is a bet on all of us in CEE, and our future together.

We believe, and experience has shown us with such alumni as Neuron Soundware, TeskaLabs, and now Rossum and Cryptelo, that startups in the CEE region can compete on the global stage when it comes to high technology. The past 3 years have seen striking advances, particularly in AI and Machine Learning, and the CEE region in particular has a depth of technical talent that rivals the best in the world.

Today more than ever, the landscape for early stage companies in deep tech is wide open, with many big problems left to be solved. Deep tech companies are well suited to compete in this new landscape, where the flexibility of small teams with new approaches means they can stay at the cutting edge, ahead of large corporations.

As big data, robots, IoT and AI proliferates, society and business’s ability to adapt to change will be strained. Deep tech companies will be at the front line of these advances. Big problems will only get bigger, and will need smart solutions. More and more, big problems will have to be solved in totally novel ways, and StartupYard will be betting on the startups that can solve them.

About the Program

StartupYard’s Accelerator Program has welcomed 51 startups since 2011. In past two years, StartupYard Startups have raised nearly 90 Million CZK in investment capital, and our portfolio companies together now employ hundreds of people, all over the world.

The StartupYard program is Mentorship Based, and puts startups into contact with scores of highly connected mentors with a proven track record of opening their contacts, and providing sound advice and support. The program also includes in-depth one-on-one support from the SY team, and a series of about two dozen in-depth workshops, on everything from growth planning, to UI/UX design, to voice coaching.

The program builds towards DemoDay, which gives startups the opportunity to publicly present themselves at Central Europe’s biggest such event. Hundreds of corporations, investors, entrepreneurs, and media attend at the finish of each round.
