Guillaume Chene started his career in venture capital, switching to the distribution sector in 1996. Before climbing the corporate ladder, he started as a trainee department manager at Auchan “Le Mans” in 1997. Through 20 years in the wholesale and retail industries, he has help positions such as head of controlling, regional management, operations, non-food buying and logistics.
Since April 2014, Chene has served as CEO of Makro Czech Republic and Metro Slovakia, responsible for 4,400 employees and an annual revenue of € 1,4 billion. He is passionate about customer experience, and technological innovation, leading a transformation in the shopping experience for Macro/Metro customers during his tenure. Chene is also a StartupYard investor, beginning with Batch 8-9. He is a graduate of ESSEC in Paris, with a masters in Econometrics, and a former French naval officer.
